A Le Beau Snapshot

Cade stumbled into the kitchen to find Anna sipping coffee at the table. “I’m going to kill Stefan,” he stretched out on a yawn.
She raised her cup to her lips and eyed him over the rim as she sipped. “What method of demise do you have planned this time?”
He plunked his cup down on the table and fell into the chair, too tired to make more of an effort. “My plan is brilliant in its simplicity. The punishment will fit the crime. He kept Abbie up all night with those damn fireworks. In turn, she kept me up with her little wet puppy nose shoved against my face. She wanted to chase the pretty sparkles, catch them, and put them in a jar like a firefly. I’m going to buy a stick of dynamite, shove it up his ass, and light the fuse.”
Anna took another sip. “Why didn’t you explain to her that she can’t catch the sparkles and put them in a jar because they’re just bits of flammable product on fire and will burn out?”
Cade swallowed his gulp of coffee and glared at her. “I tried that. She’s her mother’s daughter and insisted that she be allowed to try.”
        She just grinned.
Cade scowled and took another gulp. “Why the heck does she always poke me with her cold little nose and leave you alone?”
This time, Anna rolled her eyes. “Because you’re an easy mark. She pokes me once or twice, and I order her back to bed. After a couple of tries with me, she gives up and goes after you. If you’d discipline your little princess once in a while, it would work for you, too.”
Cade looked at her in horror, his mouth hanging open, eyes wide.
Anna shook her head as she went to refill her cup. “And that’s why you will always be the one having sleepless nights.” While she was at the counter, she looked through her herbal remedies.
“What are you doing? Did someone call for a cure this morning?” Then he held up his empty cup and gave her his saddest puppy eyes.
She rolled her eyes and refilled it for him. “In a manner, Stefan did. I have my own payback planned. If he likes a good explosion, I’ll give him one. I’m going to make his favorite tea with a few extra ingredients. Poor Stefan is going to spend the rest of his day on the toilet.”
Cade barked out a laugh, “And that’s why I love you.”
